Process

This summer, I interned as an A.I. & Motion Design intern at CNN under Warner Brothers Discovery. The goal of my internship was to explore ways in which Artificial intelligence tools could accelerate or enhance the design pipeline at CNN. I used and developed my existing skills with the Adobe Creative Suite, mainly After Effects, Illustrator, and Photoshop to edit and create broadcast graphics. I also developed new skills with Cinema 4D for 3D motion design and ComfyUI for AI image, video, and sound generation. I used ComfyUi extensively during this internship across 8 different projects. I explored how generative AI could assist in all facets of design, from ideation and brainstorming to production of graphics to conceptual renders to sound design. Projects included adapting existing breaking news intros, making 3D medical explainer video graphics, creating a tool for transforming horizontal graphics to vertical formats, animating a title intro for a documentary, streamlining a workflow for a show’s graphics generation system, developing renders for the scenic department’s physical anchor desk models, and wrapping it all up with a complete showreel that showcased all the work I created over the summer.

Product

On August 5th I had a capstone presentation in front of the entire CNN design team as well as the WBD AI Content Lab team that dove into all of my explorations and findings. I explained how AI could improve the workflows of all areas of CNN design, and pointed out where it may not be applicable. This presentation received extensive praise from my coworkers, collaborators, mentors, and superiors. Because a global news team is so fast-paced and busy, they don’t have time to dedicate an entire summer to experimenting with ways they could improve their current graphics creation process. They were very grateful to have me on their team to thoroughly examine the pipeline and find innovative ways to enhance their processes.
