luc!d

A social media platform for sharing dreams

March 2026

Synopsis

luc!d is a desktop social media platform that allows users to share posts about dreams and learn about the practice of dreaming. It uses the theme of clouds, because clouds are associated with dreams and the night sky. The cloud posts users can create or view are nontraditional social media posts that act as a “whiteboard” for users to arrange text, emojis, voice memos, and drawings however they want. Posts are distinguished by an emoji/keyword tagging system as well as by color-coded emotion. The site also features a guide/docs section, which acts as a knowledge base for users to learn more about what dreams are and how to incite them.

Process

I was visually inspired by apps like Sleep Cycle for the color scheme and calm, rounded interface elements. I used the cloud idea to carry me through most of the design. I also used slightly skeuomorphic buttons and menus to differentiate it from other social media platforms whose focus is minimalism, and to try to bring a sense of physicality to such a metaphysical topic.
